Migrant Help

Migrant Help seeks an individual with significant leadership experience to help steer the new transformative strategy that consolidates the charity’s strengths, diversifies its work in related areas and widens its sources of funding.

About Migrant Help:

Founded in 1963, Migrant Help is one of the largest charities supporting people impacted by displacement and exploitation in the UK. Their vision is for a global society that protects vulnerable people, treats them with respect and enables them to thrive as individuals.

Migrant Help provides guidance and assistance to people seeking asylum and refugees, and accommodation and support to survivors of human trafficking and modern slavery. The charity’s income is c£45.7m, a large proportion of which comes through statutory funding. An award-winning social enterprise, Clear Voice, an interpreting and translation service whose profits support the charity’s mission, is the trading branch of the organisation.

About the Chair Role:

The Chair will be taking on this pivotal role at a crucial time in Migrant Help’s growth and development as an organisation. The charity puts people affected by displacement and exploitation at the heart of everything it does, it assists those most in need and least likely to find help elsewhere while aiming to bridge community gaps and bringing services and support together. This requires strong leadership from the top and the Chair will be crucial in maintaining a positive and open culture throughout the organisation.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide strategic leadership to the Charity and its Board
  • Provide oversight of the Charity’s governance including long-term strategic plans, budgeting, risk management and legal compliance
  • Work in partnership with the Chief Executive and Executive Team, helping them achieve the charitable objectives
  • Optimise the relationship between the Board members and the Executive Team, through support, mentorship, challenge and development
  • Act as an ambassador for the charity to external bodies, corporate partners and major donors
