About this charity
This is the UK’s national fundraising charity for art. They give grants to help museums, galleries, historic houses and public arts organisations to acquire objects for their collections, to share them with as many people as possible, and to support research and training for museum professionals. They are supported by their growing membership of 135,000, as well as the generosity of many individuals, trusts and foundations.

The role

Our client is looking for an Interim Head of Press to cover the second part of a maternity leave on a fixed-term 7 month contract for 4 days per week, starting 1 October 2024. The role is part of the Media & External Affairs team, which sits within the Audiences & Engagement Department.

The Media & External Affairs team plays an integral part in enabling this charity to achieve its strategic priorities of funding art, audience-making and amplifying the museum sector through an integrated approach to the organisation’s External Communications. Reporting to the Head of Media & External Affairs, the Head of Press is responsible for communicating the charity’s work through highly impactful media relations campaigns and strategically planning external press moments to build profile, advocacy, income and support.

The postholder will be expected to identify key moments, evaluate, develop and implement plans to maximise PR and cultivate media interest in our work, securing high profile media coverage, partnerships and content. The Head of Press is the ‘go to’ person for members of the media and the internal staff team to advise on matters relating press communications, including safeguarding and risks to the organisation’s reputation. The role is also responsible for contracting, managing and getting the best from external PR agencies, freelancers, suppliers and partners.

  • Pensions – Eligible employees are enrolled into the scheme with the exception of those who have contracts of three months or less. Art Fund contributes 8% of the basic annual salary during the first six months of employment or until probation is successfully completed, whichever is the later. At that point the contribution is increased to 10%.
