The Campaign for Nature (CfN) is a global initiative working to support the protection of at least 30% of the world’s land and oceans by 2030, a target known as „30×30“ agreed upon by 196 countries in 2022. Through our strategic advocacy and campaigning, financial mobilization, and partnership-building, CfN focuses on helping governments, particularly in the Global South, to develop and implement ambitious conservation and finance plans to achieve “30×30”. CfN also emphasizes and promotes the essential role of Indigenous Peoples and local communities as stewards of biodiversity and aims to secure significant international financing and elevate nature protection as a global political and funding priority.
For our newly established CfN e.V. office in Berlin we are advertising the position of CFN Director Europe. Reporting directly to the Director Campaign for Nature at the global level, the Director Europe is responsible for building up a high performing and dynamic CFN presence in Berlin to implement CfN’s global conservation, advocacy, communication and fundraising priorities in Germany and other focal EU member states. As a collaborative, inspirational and entrepreneurial manager and leader the Director Europe promotes CfN’s vision and strategic priorities to external audiences and key stakeholders and participates in strategic partnership-building and fundraising approaches to them. The director establishes a vibrant and efficient institutional presence with motivated staff, effective internal organizational structures, policies, and processes in line with the statues of the organization.The Director Europe represents CfN at all relevant national and international meetings and fora.
Main Duties and responsibilities:
- Ensures the development and effective implementation of a 3-year Strategic Plan in line with CFN’s Global Priorities
- Implements an effective yet simple monitoring and reporting system for measuring performance against CFN’s Strategic Plan as a basis for reporting to the Board and for the annual report
- Ensures strategic engagement, partnership-building and fund-raising with relevant European and national target donor audiences and stakeholders
- Develops and implements a communication plan to support of CfN’s programmatic and fundraising priorities, at the same time promoting CfN’s brand, and raising its profile and image
- Ensures timely programmatic and financial reporting to the CfN Board, donors and CfN Global according to agreed standards
- Ensures attraction and retention of highly qualified and motivated staff, based upon regular analyses of staffing needs and as approved by the Board
- Ensures appropriate Human Resource policies and practices are developed, managed, and implemented as required and in line with staff levels
- Cooperates effectively with annual and other required audits, and implements audit recommendations in a timely manner
- Prepares Board and membership meetings of CfN e.V. in close consultation with the Chair of Board ensuring the Board and members receive all information required to fulfil its roles and responsibilities as documented in the statues of the association and its by-laws
- Works closely with, and seeks support from the CfN’s Global Director and his team, to undertake the above tasks most effectively, and
- Performs other duties as requested by the CfN’s Global Director
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Advanced university degree in Environmental / Conservation Management, Business Management, International Relations / Development, or other related fields
- At least 5-year professional experience in a leadership role, preferably in Germany and other EU member states
- Proven track record in successfully developing, leading, and managing programmes and/or institutions in the field of conservation, natural resource management, international development, and/or other related fields
- Hands-on experience in competency-based recruitment, staff development, and continuous performance management.
- Proven leadership and entrepreneurial skills
- Negotiation, influencing, and media relation skills, preferably at a high level
- Demonstrated fundraising skills, and experience working with public and private donors
- Excellent inter-personal skills, with the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships at all levels with government agencies, the non-for-profit sector, the scientific community, the business community, and the CfN Global Team
- Proficiency in managing remote or hybrid teams using modern HRIS and digital collaboration tools
- Sufficient knowledge of AI in relevant business areas and management tasks
- Excellent oral and written communications skills in German and English; and good command of another major European language
