Non-profit organizations are proving to be essential to society and are struggling greatly with the effects of the current crisis. For this reason, the Republic of Austria is providing financial support to these organizations.
The target groups of the NPO Support Fund are non-profit organizations from all areas of life, such as climate, environmental and animal protection, social affairs and inclusion, art and culture, further education, research or development cooperation. Austrian non-profit organizations are entitled to support non-profit organizations (see legal definition)provided that they meet the requirements of §§ 34-47 of the Federal Fiscal Code (BAO), voluntary fire departments, legally recognized churches or religious communities or legal entities in which the above-mentioned organizations directly or indirectly hold a stake of more than 50%, if their activities ensure the intended tasks of the organizations.
Up to 100% of the costs for rent, insurance, seasonal goods and interest expenses are reimbursed. The structural protection amount is compensated at a flat rate and generally amounts to 7% of the measures generated in 2019. The fund is limited to 2.4 million euros per organization.
The prerequisites for applying for financial support are the registered office and activities of the organization in question in Austria, the date of foundation or establishment on or before 10.03.2020 and demonstrable economic impairments in connection with the corona pandemic.
