Environmental and sustainability award for innovative projects

The T-Mobile Environment and Sustainability Fund (TUN) awards 50,000 euros annually for innovations to solve environmental problems and for sustainable action. The aim is to use the possibilities of mobile communication as a lever to solve problems, regardless of specific providers or manufacturers. Both new and existing projects are eligible for the prize. Co-financing of at least 25 percent is required.

Projects submitted for the T-Mobile Environment and Sustainability Award can come from a variety of subject areas, which are described below. Ultimately, the jury decides whether a submitted project meets the basic criteria of environment and sustainability using mobile communication. Three prizes of 20,000, 15,000 and 12,000 euros will be awarded, as well as a school prize (see below) of 3,000 euros.

The TUN Fund understands sustainability in the triangle of ecology, economy and social issues. Projects can address one or more of these dimensions of sustainable development. The following descriptions are intended as examples of award-worthy areas, but not as a complete list.

  • Energy efficiency and climate protection
Examples include mobile apps for better control of energy consumption, sustainable mobility concepts, promotion of a climate-friendly lifestyle and energy-efficient product innovations.
  • Green information and communication technology (ICT)
Examples include efficient chargers, software and hardware to reduce energy consumption, technologies to control and track recycling chains.
  • Environmental, nature and species protection
Examples include mobile apps to support environmentally conscious food production and consumption, environmentally conscious tourism, projects to protect endangered animal and plant species, natural habitats and natural beauty using telecommunications.
  • Development of a sustainable lifestyle through projects in the areas of social affairs, education and work
Examples include assistive and augmentative apps and technologies to support people with special needs, educational apps to utilize the opportunities of digital media for differentiated, individual learning, platforms that open up sustainable income and work opportunities for people.

The submission deadline has been extended to July 10, 2017.
