About Children’s Cancer and Leukaemia Group

Every year, around 1600 children and young people aged 0-15 are diagnosed with cancer.

Before 1970, fewer than 3 in 10 children survived their cancer. Since CCLG was founded in 1977, we are proud to have helped over 40,000 children and young people survive their cancer and the survival rate is now over 8 in 10.

Even though we’ve come this far, there’s still a lot to do. Over 260 children still die from cancer in the UK ever year, and it’s the biggest cause of death by disease in children. Of those children who do survive, the harsh nature of cancer treatments will leave two thirds of them with lifelong health conditions.

That’s why CCLG exists; we bring together healthcare and allied professionals who treat and care for children and young people with cancer, to improve standards of care; we support families who have been affected by cancer through expert advice and information and award-winning publications; and we fund vital research into better, safer childhood cancer treatments. Since 2016, almost £24 million worth of research has been funded through CCLG and its partners.

CCLG is based in Leicester but works in the UK and internationally.

Our work

Each week in the UK and Ireland, more than 30 children are diagnosed with cancer. Our network of dedicated professional members work together in treatment, care and research to help shape a future where all children with cancer survive and live happy, healthy and independent lives.

We fund and support innovative world-class research and collaborate, both nationally and internationally, to drive forward improvements in childhood cancer. Our award-winning information resources help lessen the anxiety, stress and loneliness commonly felt by families, giving support throughout the cancer journey.

We are a registered charity and fundraise for our important activities through national campaigns, donations and family involvement. Our sister organisation, Teenagers and Young Adults with Cancer (TYAC) is also part of our overall brand.
