Global Head of Communications (f/m/nb)

12 months maternity leave cover
full-time / different locations in Global South and North possible

We are open minded regarding the location. As we are an international organization we are able to hire you in any of our legal entities in Africa as well as in Europe.

Primary responsibilities:

Key focus: As part of our senior management, you will ensure our day-to-day communications: demonstrate credibility and expertise and attract new committed givers. You will safeguard and develop an ambitious long-term communications strategy which supports our fundraising & influencing aims in line with our Strategic Framework 2025 & Strategy 2023. You will drive forward the topics: ‘audience first’, ‘digital transformation’, ‘powerful & ethical storytelling’ and ‘strong, consistent branding’.

Leadership: As leader and coach of the ‘global communications team’ you help your team fulfil their roles to their maximum potential. You will line manage: Head of Brand Content, Head of Video; and our Partnerships & Advocacy Communications Coordinator. You will also provide direction to, and be closely involved in the work of, our internal communications manager, our six communications colleagues working in programme countries, and our colleagues working in Digital. You possibly will also manage agencies/freelancers. In partnership with the DACH (Germany, Austria & Switzerland) Head of Comms, and programme colleagues, you will ensure consistent messaging across the organisation. You will encourage training, best practice processes for project management, cross-team collaboration, and pastoral support.

Communication: You write selected, strategic key texts. You will also give final sign-off – i.e. “English language Editor-in-Chief” – for other texts across the organisation. You are the senior lead for crisis communications situations, in partnership with the International Management Team & DACH Head of Communications. You will ensure impactful and strategic internal communications, including advice to CEO & other leaders, as needed.Strategy: Using your strategic skills you help map a flexible but clear route for growth across all areas of your responsibility. You champion best-practice communications across the whole organisation.

Ambassador: You fulfil an external ambassador role for our vision and mission, representing Light for the World externally, on a senior level.

Vision: You are highly motivated to make a difference and bring about change through the positioning, resources and track record of Light for the World.

Your profile:

  • A seasoned communications professional
  • Experience in leading & managing teams
  • Excellent English writing, editing and proofreading skills
  • The ability to manage crisis communications at a senior level
  • Knowledge of Light for the World’s mandate areas and the international development sector in general
  • Outstanding interpersonal, intercultural and relationship-building skills
  • The ability to develop and execute strategic communications plans
  • Confidence in facilitating large global meetings & advising senior management
  • Sensitivity to Light for the World’s vision and values
  • Knowledge and insight across all platforms: digital, media, events and beyond
